Fund Purpose Statements for Each Corresponding Fund are below:

Albert and Jo Waltman College of Public Health Georgia Scholarship

The purpose of the Fund is to provide need-based scholarship support for a student(s) in the College of Public Health (“College”). Recipients shall be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College. Financial need shall be determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Georgia (“University”).

Ann and Tipton Golias International Travel Fund in Epidemiology Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for graduate students within the College of Public Health (“College”) participating in internships abroad concentrating in Epidemiology. International internship support may also be extended to graduate students enrolled in another concentration determined to be epidemiological in its nature. Support may include, but not be limited to, travel, lodging, food, and payment of other expenses as deemed appropriate by the Dean of the College, or his/her designee, preferentially the Department Head. The Donor Representative requests each recipient(s) receive an appropriate amount of support, based on the current cost of travel, so the Fund might support an increasing number of students as the annual spending allocation increases.

Barbara Bankston and Mel Garber CARE Center Student Support Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for students engaged in patient diagnosis and family support at the Cognitive Aging Research and Education Center (“CARE Center”). Recipients will be selected based upon a competitive application process. Support shall include, but not be limited to, training activities, educational events, licensure and continuing education, learning new skills, workshops, conferences, guest speakers, research, travel, outreach, and any other related expenses deemed appropriate by the Director(s) of the CARE Center and approved by the Director of the Institute of Gerontology (“Institute”) and the Dean of the College of Public Health (“College”).

Blue Cross Blue Shield Master of Public Health Student Support Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support to graduate students in the Masters of Public Health program. Support shall include, but not be limited to, scholarship assistance, stipends for graduate assistants, travel support, lectures, professional education, and any other expense deemed appropriate by the Dean of the College of Public Health (“College”)

Chris and Annette Marsh CARE Center Student Support Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for students directly involved with the Institute of Gerontology’s (“Institute”) Cognitive Aging Research and Education Center (“CARE Center”). Support shall include, but not be limited to, awards, travel, supplies, equipment, service-learning, student recruitment, research, conference fees, and any other related expenses as deemed appropriate by the Director of the Institute and approved by the Dean of the College of Public Health (“College”). First preference shall be given to students in the College, but support is available to any/all students at the University of Georgia (“University”) who are working with the CARE Center.

David Hayes Undergraduate Award

The purpose of the Fund is to provide undergraduate Health Promotion and Behavior students with an opportunity to develop their teaching, research, and general professional skills and to enhance their undergraduate educational experience. It is the intent of this Fund to support undergraduate students by providing direct undergraduate support for, but not limited to, travel expenses related to attendance at professional conferences or meetings, lectures, or study abroad; professional education such as workshops, classes or trainings; expenses related to research while at the University of Georgia; student initiated programs or activities designed to improve the health of Georgians; and classroom materials intended to enhance an undergraduate student’s classroom experience such as, but not limited to, journal subscriptions, videos and books, or any other expense deemed appropriate by the Head of the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior (“Department”) in the College of Public Health (“College”).

Dean Marsha Davis Graduate Fellowship Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide need-based support for a graduate student(s) in the College of Public Health (“College”) who is (1) a first-generation student residing in a rural area, (2) a first-generation student, or (3) a student who resides in a rural area, as determined by a scholarship selection committee. Income from the Fund may be used for tuition and fees, living expenses, and other academic and special expenses incurred in the course of graduate study.

Dr. Randall Oliver Manning Scholarship

The purpose of the Fund is to provide an undergraduate scholarship for an outstanding student in the Department of Environmental Sciences (“Department”) within the College of Public Health (“College”). The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College, with preference given to students completing an internship in the field of toxicology.

Exposition Foundation Graduate Fellowship in Gerontology Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for a graduate student(s) in Gerontology or Applied Aging Sciences within the Institute of Gerontology (“Institute”). First priority shall be given to those whose work is tied to the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center housed in the Institute. Income from the Fund may be used for tuition, living expenses, and other special expenses incurred in the course of graduate study, including but not limited to, travel for research/field work, fees and expenses for conferences related to the student’s field of study, and costs associated with training/professional development to advance the student’s scholarship or career.

Harold Barnhart Scholarship in Environmental Health Science

The purpose of the Fund is to provide a scholarship(s) to an undergraduate student(s) majoring in Environmental Health Science.

Kimberly Lynn Rowe Environmental Health Scholarship

The purpose of the Fund is to provide an award to recognize one senior undergraduate student majoring in environmental health. This recipient should, in the opinion of the environmental health faculty, show excellent promise for success in environmental health practice. This award is not to be based on GPA, but a combination of characteristics that lead to success as a professional including, but not limited to, enthusiasm, interest in public health, integrity, involvement in environmental health organizations, and success in environmental health courses.

Mary Ann Johnson Aging and Health Graduate Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for a graduate student(s) having completed at least two graduate courses in aging, gerontology, or geriatrics and demonstrating research or practice related to aging. First preference shall be given to students enrolled in the Certificate of Gerontology or the Master of Public Health (MPH) in Gerontology.

Leonard W. and Marie A. Poon Student Mentorship Support Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide annual support for faculty-led student mentorship at the Institute of Gerontology (“Institute”). Support may include, but not be limited to, awards, programs, activities, hosting symposia, travel, registration fees, food, and any other related expenses deemed appropriate by the Director of the Institute and approved by the Dean of the College of Public Health (“College”)

Orlin K. Fletcher, Jr. Scholarship Fund

This fund was established to provide scholarships for students enrolled in science research studies at the University of Georgia. PhD students in the College of Public Health with at least one full year remaining until graduation are eligible. Applicants will be reviewed for academic and research excellence and potential in public health research, including a letter of reference. This award is reviewed at CPH level and administered by the Graduate School, and awarding may follow a different timeline.
