Scholarship opportunities
The Department of Health Promotion and Behavior is proud to support students through several scholarship opportunities, including:
- David Hayes Award: The David Hayes Award provides undergraduate Health Promotion & Behavior students with an opportunity to develop their teaching, research and general professional skills and to enhance their undergraduate educational experience. The maximum award is $1000 but smaller award amounts may be supported. It is the intent of this Fund to support undergraduate students by providing direct undergraduate support for, but not limited to, travel expenses related to attendance at professional conferences or meetings, lectures, or study abroad; professional education such as workshops, classes or trainings, expenses related to research while at UGA; student initiative programs or activities designed to improve the health of Georgians, and classroom materials intended to enhance undergraduate students’ classroom experience such as, but not limited to, journal subscriptions, videos and books or any other expenses deemed appropriate by the department head of HPB.
- Bernard Ramsey Outstanding Major Award: To recognize an outstanding senior undergraduate HPB student based on academic performance, professional development-related experiences, and accomplishments within the framework of the Professional Health Educator Competencies. The student selected by the Health Promotion & Behavior Awards Committee will receive a cash award and have his or her name included on the Outstanding Senior Undergraduate Award certificate/plaque to be presented during the spring semester.
- Undergraduate Recognition Award: To recognize up to three outstanding undergraduate majors in Health Promotion based on academic performance, professional development-related experiences, and accomplishments within the framework of the Professional Health Educator Competencies. The award is presented during the Spring semester and the awardee receives a certificate/plaque and a cash award.
- Service Award: Awarded to one HPB undergraduate student each year, this award recognizes the recipient’s outstanding service contributions within the field of health promotion. The awardee will receive a certificate/plaque and a cash award to be presented during the spring semester.
Travel funding
The Department of Health Promotion & Behavior offers financial assistance to support student academic and professional development. Funding is awarded as reimbursement for approved expenses and must be requested at least 3 weeks prior to travel or activity. Funding is limited and as a result we are unable to fulfill all requests. We will notify you of our decision regarding your request within 3 weeks. Apply via this form.
