E-cigarettes create health debate despite advertising

In local new coverage addressing issues surrounding the new University System of Georgia Tobacco Free Campuses policy going into affect at UGA on Oct. 1, the Red & Black tackled the e-cigarette debate in a Sept. 25 article.

A HBP faculty member commented on the issue:

Dr. Jessica Muilenburg, associate professor with the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior, said that e-cigarettes in and of themselves may be just as harmful as conventional cigarettes since they contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance as well as other chemicals.
