Dissertation Defense: Nicole Luisi, MPH, MS
You are invited to attend Nicole Luisi’s dissertation defense, Spatial and Digital Landscapes of CPCs Relative to Abortion Facilities: Geographic Access and Online Representation Post-Dobbs
The defense will take place Monday, March 31 from 2-3:30 p.m. in Wright Hall 150.
In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, resulting in increased travel times and distances to abortion providers, especially in states that enacted bans and restrictions. At the same time, crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), religious non-profits that oppose abortion and contraception, have maintained or expanded their presence nationally, despite already outnumbering abortion facilities by 3:1. This dissertation examines how the geographic relationship between CPCs and abortion facilities has shifted post-Dobbs, and assesses the visibility of CPCs in national Google search results for abortion-related queries, with a focus on states with bans or restrictions.
