Doctoral Dissertation Defense: William Norfolk, PhD candidate in environmental health science
William Norfolk, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Environmental Health Science, will defend his doctoral dissertation – “Vibrio alginolyticus: a physiological, chemical, and ecological characterization of an emerging marine pathogen ” – on Friday, March 17 at 11:30 a..m. in Room 1501 in Miller Plant Sciences on South Campus.
William earned his B.S. in Biology from the University of Mary Washington (2012) and an M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from George Mason University (2015). As a PhD student, his research has focused on the characterization of the emerging pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus to better understand factors that affect the abundance and transmission. His research employs a combination of physiology-based growth kinetics evaluation, bacterial metabolomics, and ex situ microcosm experiments to study V. alginolyticus from a physiological, chemical, and ecological perspective.
