EHS Teaching Seminar – Carter Coleman

We are pleased to welcome Carter Coleman, candidate for the EHS Non-Tenure Track Clinical Assistant Professor position, for a teaching seminar on Monday, October 27th!

Carter Coleman is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Environmental Health Science under the advisement of Dr. Erin Lipp. He holds a B.S. in Ecology with an emphasis in Freshwater Ecology with a Certificate in Water Resources from the UGA Odum School of Ecology. Prior to his Doctoral Studies, Carter held an assistant project manager position with Vertex Engineering where he consulted on the remediation of failing underground petroleum storage tanks and indoor mold impacts to residential and medical facilities. Currently, Carter researches the fate and transport of wastewater related contaminants at the watershed level using both real-time PCR assays for microbial targets and mass spectrometry for chemical pollutants. At the University of Georgia, Carter works within a multi-disciplinary research group from the Odum School of Ecology and the departments of Environmental Health Science, Crop and Soil Science, and Chemistry. In addition to his work at UGA, Carter has held both an ORISE Fellowship and a Pathways Internship with the USEPA developing analytical techniques for pesticides and pharmaceuticals/personal care products. During his research, Carter has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students from topics in microbiology, freshwater ecology, and environmental chemistry.

Outside of research, has been a teaching assistant for five courses at the University of Georgia in the Department of Environmental Health Science and in the Odum School of Ecology. The courses include the Environmental Microbiology and Environmental Chemistry lab courses in the Department of Environmental Health Science (EHSC 4310L and EHSC 4350L) and two study abroad course in Tropical Ecology (ECOL 3510, ECOL 3100L). Additionally, Carter holds a board position with the Upper Oconee Watershed Network, where he advises on water quality monitoring techniques and assists in training community members in proper water sampling techniques.
