EHSC 8030 Seminar – Imtiaj Bhuiyan
We are pleased to welcome Imtiaj Bhuiyan, PhD candidate in Environmental Health Science, for his third-year seminar on Wednesday, November 5th!
Imtiaj U Bhuiyan is a fourth-year PhD student in Environmental Health Science, mentored by Dr. Travis Glenn. He holds a BS (Honors) in Microbiology from the University of
Dhaka, Bangladesh, and an MPH in Environmental Health from Seoul National University, South Korea. After graduating in 2021, Imtiaj began his professional journey in the U.S. as a Research Professional at UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, later joining the Georgia Genomics and Bioinformatics Core as a Genomics Specialist. Since April 2023, he has been part of the Glenn Lab, where he focuses on developing and validating genomic tools to support research on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. His doctoral research centers on implementing hybrid capture to explore genomic variation in Cryptosporidium spp., aiming to better understand mixed infections, outbreak dynamics, and the evolution of human-infecting strains. Beyond research, Imtiaj serves in a leadership role on the Student Health Ambassador Committee at the University Health Center and previously led the UGA Bangladesh Students’ Association as President.
