Speaker Bio: Dr. Ankita Garg is an Assistant professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases in the College of Veterinary Medicine at UGA. Dr. Garg received Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology at the Sanjay Ghandi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences where she studied the molecular mechanism of ethambutol drug resistance in clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the TB causing bacteria. She also studied the immune pathogenesis of Ethambutol resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) strain in a mouse model of TB. During her postdoc training at University of Texas Health Center, Texas. Dr. Garg continued to study immune response to Mtb with specific reference to enhancing the BCG vaccine-induced immune responses. Prior to joining UGA as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Garg also received specialized training in HIV from University of California, San Diego and was involved in research on immunological dysfunction in Mtb and HIV infections. In addition to academic research, Dr. Garg served as Group Leader in R&D Division of pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations where she was involved in preclinical development of therapeutic products and vaccine candidates. Dr. Garg’s expertise is in translational research on cellular immunology, and immune pathogenesis of Mtb and HIV.
