Big Data in Healthcare: Enhancing Patient Empowerment and Care Delivery
This month’s guest speaker is: Gordon Gao, Ph.D, Associate Professor and Co-Director, Center for Health Information and Decision Systems, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland
Dr. Gao will discuss how big data in healthcare are empowering patients and transforming health care delivery. He will share insights from multiple projects using machine learning and deep learning based on big data generated by patients and providers.
Guodong (Gordon) Gao, Ph.D., M.B.A., is co-director of the Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS), director of the CHIDS AI Lab, and associate professor in decision, operations and information technologies at the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park. His research, which as been funded by the NSF and AHR, examines big data in healthcare, health IT, and quality transparency. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and B.A. in Economics from Tsinghua University in 1998, his M.B.A. from the Tsinghua and MIT Sloan Joint Program in 2000, and PhD in Information System and Economics from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania in 2005. Dr. Gao is also a recipient of an NSF CAREER Award
