STEM: Spatio-Temporal Epidemiological Modeler: An Eclipse Open-Source Project, initiated at IBM Research

This week’s guest speaker: Dr. Kun (Maggie) Hu, Senior Research Manager and Venture Lead, IBM Almaden Research Center

Speaker Bio: Kun (Maggie) Hu, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Manager and Venture Lead at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA. She is a committer to the Eclipse Open Source project: Spatio-Temporal Epidemiological Modeler (STEM https://www.eclipse.org/stem/). Dr. Hu led community efforts responding to epidemics/pandemics, such as H7N9 in 2013, Ebola in 2014-2015, Zika in 2015-2016, and was part of IBM COVID-19 modeling task force in 2020. Her work has been widely reported by VentureBeat, CNN etc. She is a frontier engineer named by the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 2017 (USFOE) and an awardee of “Silicon Valley Emerging Leader” by YWCA in 2018. Dr. Hu has co-authored over 30 publications and a dozen of US patents. Kun received her Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2011.
