Seminar from visiting scientist Dr. Malcolm Bevel (PhD, MSPH)
The CARE Center will be hosting a seminar from Dr. Malcolm Bevel (PhD, MSPH), a chronic disease/cancer epidemiologist, regarding his work in both food deserts and food swamps. His research orbits around how said nutritional obfuscations lead to the development of cancer in underserved populations. To combat these disparities, Dr. Bevel is currently building a vegetable garden for cancer patients on the rooftop of the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University and will be sharing his experiences and research with us.
The team at the CARE Center would like to invite you to come and enjoy an educational seminar, titled “To Plant or Not to Plant: Analyzing the Association Between Food Swamps and Obesity-Related Cancer,” with the CARE team and Dr. Bevel. The event will be in the CARE Center front classroom, Room 112, in Hudson Hall (102 Spear Road, Athens GA 30602) on September 17th from 2pm – 3pm. Questions will begin at 3pm.
More information about Dr. Bevel’s work can be found on his Augusta University page here.
