Thinking Outside the Box: Incorporating Earth Observations to Guide Air Quality Management and Public Health Surveillance (National Public Health Week 2025 event)
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Virtual

NASA utilizes its fleet of more than 20 satellites and sensors in low-Earth orbit to provide real-time data that examine the temporal and spatial variation of an array of emerging environmental risks affecting human and animal health. NASA satellite-based observations, combined with in situ and airborne air quality campaign data, can help researchers explore ways to better understand air quality and other environmental health challenges. Multidisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations are crucial to leverage scientific expertise, merge data and technology, and quantify the burden of environmental exposures and disease hotspots across geographic regions. This presentation will describe ongoing activities at NASA and their significance toward cross-cutting applied air pollution and public health research.
