Health Policy & Management

Bernard A. Wheatley, an part-time associate professor in the Department of Health Policy & Management, a recognized leader in his field with 25 years’ of senior management experience in major community and academic medical centers that demand continuous improvement. His teaching interests are broad across healthcare administration, with a focus on leadership skills, strategic management, marketing and quality of life.

Dr. Wheatley is experienced in driving, clinical excellence, process and customer service improvements while building partnerships with key stakeholders. He has consistently increased health system performance, reduced operating costs and increased revenues and improve clinical quality and efficiency by utilizing best approach to creating the most efficient and effective business structure concepts (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Evidence-Based Medicine) to optimize patient outcomes and deliver great patient care. He is also recognized for building motivating cross-functional teams that exceeded systems expectations.

Course Instruction

HPAM 7720
This course provides a critical evaluation of marketing from a health care perspective. The role and function of marketing in health care organizations will be discussed using consumer, competitor, and company analyses. Topics include decision making for consumers and the organization, use of marketing research, target markets, positioning and competition, branding of services, and ethical considerations.
