Understanding Dementia Prevalence Among Centenarians

The Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences has published a new paper by the Georgia Centenarian Study research team titled, “Understanding Dementia Prevalance Among Centenarians.” Dr. Leonard Poon, principle investigator, says that “Two studies are reported. The first validated the Global Deterioration Scale used for centenarians with study of concordance with similar measures, independent clinical symptoms, neuropsychological study, neuropathology study, and consensus between clinical and neuropathological findings. The second study examined how different demographics could bias the prevalence results. This paper may be helpful to research projects associate with prevalence studies, especially among the oldest old.” The article can be viewed here.

Also of note, the Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences had a special issue on longevity in the April 2012 issue. You can the find the issue here.
