Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Epidemiology & Biostatistics
Rachel Mercaldo obtained her B.A. in General Arts and Sciences—Science and Mathematics concentration—from Pennsylvania State University, and came to the University of Georgia to study the epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). She is a National Science Foundation research trainee fellow in UGA’s Interdisciplinary Disease Ecology Across Scales program, and works with mentor Andreas Handel. She is particularly interested in Mtb phylogeographic structuring and in modeling vaccine and treatment efficacy.
