Over 1,000 second-grade students in the Clarke County School District in Athens, Ga. will visit the University of Georgia campus April 3-6 and April 10-13 for field trips that introduce them to basic health principles through hands-on activities organized by students in the College of Public Health.
These events, which kick off during National Public Health Week, are part of Experience UGA, an initiative that aims to bring all Clarke County students to UGA’s campus to experience learning on a college campus, explore college options and interact with UGA students.
Each day, groups of students from one of eight participating schools will spend the morning at the Ramsey Student Center on UGA’s South Campus, visiting stations focused on nutrition, hand-washing and germ spread, physical activity and bullying prevention. Each station will include a Q&A session where students will be introduced to basic principles followed by a hands-on activity or game.
Over 100 UGA undergraduate and graduate students from numerous schools and colleges are expected to staff the event. This is the fourth year the College of Public Health has partnered with Experience UGA to provide public health programming.
Additional NPHW activities led by the College’s Future Health Promoters Club include a day of public health trivia and other fun games and activities at UGA’s Tate Student Center Plaza, as well as participation in the 2018 UGA Relay for Life at UGA’s Intramural Fields.
