SUMMARY:Epidemiology & Biostatistics Seminar: Clinical Data Sharing and Reuse - Expanding the Impact of Clinical Trials with Dr. Amanda Skarlupka
DESCRIPTION:Epidemiology & Biostatistics Seminar: Clinical Data Sharing and Reuse – Expanding the Impact of Clinical Trials with Dr. Amanda Skarlupka\, Senior Program Manager for Vivli \nAPRIL 9 | 12:00-1:00 PM\nRUSSELL HALL RM 241 \nBio: Amanda Skarlupka is a Senior Program Manager for Vivli. She’s the lead program manager with a portfolio of 15+ projects centered on enabling data sharing\, date reuse\, and data analysis technology advancements. Amanda earned her Ph.D. in Infectious Diseases and her M.S. in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from the University of Georgia. \nAbstract: Open data access is increasingly expected across the biomedical research community\, not only by funders and researchers\, but also by the public. At the same time\, openly sharing data from clinical research brings ethical and privacy challenges that do not arise with many other types of biomedical data. Even so\, today’s data-repository landscape offers practical ways to share sensitive data responsibly and securely. \n‘This presentation looks at the cultural and policy changes driving the shift toward broader data sharing\, the rapid growth of generalist repositories\, and the role of Vivli a global platform for sharing and accessing clinical research data. Core elements required for sharing and access clinical data include the harmonization of data-use agreements\, governance and approval processes\, approaches to data anonymization\, and the creation of a secure environment for analysis. \nIncreasing access to clinical trial data has enabled researchers to bring together different datasets\, supporting work that has led to conference abstracts\, peer-reviewed publications\, and contributions to clinical guidelines. \nThis seminar will be useful to anyone who generates clinical research data\, performs secondary analyses\, or wants to better understand the current data-sharing landscape and its impact. \nJoin us for coffee and cookies and a chance to meet the speaker!\n11:00-11:45 AM in the Miller Hall Lobby
