Dr. Oladele (Dele) Ogunseitan is a distinguished professor at the University of California, Irvine, and a leader in public and global health initiatives. He founded the Department of
Population Health and Disease Prevention at UCI and currently holds several leadership roles, including directing the Education Center of the University of California Global Health Institute. He also co-chairs the education pillar for the UC Center for Climate, Health and Equity.
Dr. Ogunseitan’s research focuses on the link between industrial pollution and public health, with a specific interest in disease prevention. His discoveries include identifying bacteriophages that spread antibiotic resistance and his work on metals like mercury and lead has led to new strategies for managing e-waste. He is an elected fellow of multiple prestigious academies and was a Jefferson Science Fellow for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He also received a meritorious honor award from the U.S. Department of State for his work with the United Nations.
