The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) in the College of Public Health supports physicians, public health professionals, and faculty interested in medical education, clinical research, and evidence-based practice. It will develop collaborative relationships between University of Georgia (UGA) faculty and members of the healthcare community to facilitate practice-based and hospital-based research, create opportunities for continuing professional education, and provide opportunities to enhance clinical teaching skills.

Who is eligible?

Adjunct Physician Faculty Track

  • Licensed physicians associated with the Augusta University/UGA Medical Partnership who are interested in advancing their knowledge regarding medical education, clinical research, scholarship, and evidence-based practice are eligible to become members of the FMS. Information for AU/UGA Medical Partnership Volunteer Clinical Faculty can be found here.
  • Other licensed physicians who are willing to provide their services to advance the educational, research and/or service missions of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership, or the UGA College of Public Health may have an Adjunct Physician Faculty appointment in the College of Public Health.

Clinical Faculty Track

Benefits of joining the FMS

All FMS appointees have the opportunity to participate in FMS seminars and meetings, and to receive continuing medical education credit for selected seminars and events. They also have the opportunity to become involved in clinical research and scholarship based on their level of interest and expertise, ranging from participation in data collection to designing funded, collaborative, clinical research studies.

All FMS faculty will receive a UGACard, which provides access to a variety of UGA resources and facilities. In addition, Adjunct Physician Faculty in the FMS will receive a certificate of appointment that will be updated annually as long as they continue to participate in the Faculty and its mission. The objectives of the FMS are likely to evolve over time. Current plans include an annual colloquium in Athens focused on medical education, monthly continuing health professions education seminars, and the opportunity to participate in a UGA practice based research network (PBRN).
