Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Epidemiology & Biostatistics

Kenya Murray is a first-year Ph.D. student in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a graduate assistant within the Global Health Institute. Her research interests include infectious diseases, epidemiologic methods, and the use of mobile health technology (mHealth) for infectious disease surveillance and outbreak detection, particularly in low-resource settings. Kenya is part of the inaugural class of the College of Public Health’s first cohort of the Health Equity Fellowship where she has partnered with a rural community in Georgia to identify a community intervention to address health disparities.

Kenya has nearly 10 years of experience as an applied epidemiologist in the United States, Zambia, and Uganda and has worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Prior to joining the program, she served as the Director of Antibiotic Resistance Epidemiology and Surveillance at the NYC DOHMH where she led the development of a nationwide surveillance system focused on detecting antibiotic-resistant infections in healthcare settings. Outside of the classroom, Kenya is the Founder & CEO of PhRevive Career Coaching and Consulting, LLC a company whose mission is to diversify the public health workforce and create solutions to inequities in health through mentorship and consulting.

Kenya obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology from Mississippi State University.
