Better, Cheaper, Faster: Method evaluations in environmental sampling and molecular detection
This week’s speaker: Monica Chan,Ph.D. candidate, Department of Environmental Health Science, College of Public Health, University of Georgia
This seminar will take place on Friday, January 26, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. in Room 1501 of Miller Plant Sciences on South Campus. Everyone is welcome to attend! For more information, contact Izzy Vicens.
Monica Chan is a Ph.D. student in Environmental Health Science under the guidance of Dr. Travis Glenn. She’s also a Microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on applied microbiology within the Division of Healthcare Quality and Promotion. Monica’s research expertise centers on optimizing sample collection, integrity, and downstream processing for both culture and molecular microbiology in the lab and in the field. Join us for her third-year talk, where she explores method evaluation to validation in environmental sampling and molecular detection, enhancing research’s quality, cost-effectiveness, and speed. She holds a Bachelor’s (2011) and a Master’s (2016) of Science in Environmental Health Science from the University of Georgia.
