Dr. McCracken is an environmental epidemiologist with interest in preventing disease by intervention research on environmental risk factors. His main research focus has been on health effects of air pollution, particularly from use of solid fuels for cooking in low income settings. Dr. McCracken is co-lead of the Guatemalan intervention research center within the multi-country Household Air Pollution Intervention Network (HAPIN) and Principal Investigator of a HAPIN follow-up study examining respiratory disease and molecular markers of effects in children. He has also conducted research related to surveillance and control of infectious disease in Guatemala since 2009, in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Guatemala Ministry of Health.
