The University of Georgia College of Public Health is pleased to announce Dean Marsha Davis’s appointment to the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Board of Directors. Her term will begin in March.
This prestigious appointment highlights Davis’s exceptional leadership and steadfast commitment to advancing public health education and research. As an at-large member of the ASPPH Board, she will contribute to shaping policies and initiatives that will influence the future of public health across academic institutions.
“I am deeply committed to advancing ASPPH’s mission, bringing the perspectives of institutions like the University of Georgia—a public land-grant university—to the forefront,” Davis said. “In this role, I look forward to working alongside colleagues from across our field, collaborating to advance academic public health by reimagining our institutional practices and training, ensuring that we’re equipped to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our time, from pandemics and environmental challenges to social injustices.”
Davis has served as Dean of the College of Public Health since 2019, and she previously served as the college’s associate dean for outreach and engagement. Throughout her tenure at UGA, she has been a catalyst for identifying and developing programs that leverage the shared resources of UGA and the communities it serves. She worked to connect public health leaders throughout the state by founding the State of the Public’s Health Conference, which just celebrated its 13th year.
Before coming to UGA, Davis served on the faculty of the Rollins University School of Public Health at Emory University and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Throughout her career at UGA, Davis has been awarded more than $20 million from federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This funding supported the development of landmark community-based programs aimed at improving the health of children and their families.
ASPPH is a global organization that represents more than 150 accredited schools and programs and supports academic public health by promoting excellence and innovation in education, research and practice. As an at-large member of the Board, Davis will support ASPPH’s mission to strengthen public health education to improve health outcomes by connecting members with key stakeholders and championing the critical role that academic public health plays in addressing global health challenges.
