CPH In the Media: July 2018 Roundup

UGA College of Public Health news and media mentions for the month of July 2018:

Research by Dr. Andrea Swartzendruber, assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, received a number of media mentions this month.  This past week, Dr. Swartzendruber spoke to GPB about sex education in Georgia schools. She was also quoted (and her 2018 study is referenced) in a July 18 piece on CPCs in JAMA.  A July 12 opinion piece on CPCs in The Red & Black featured Dr. Swartzendruber as well.

MPH student Zac Adams joined forces with medical student Hazmah Ali and AU/UGA Medical Partnership faculty member Dr. Suzanne Lester to create a mobile health clinic in Athens, Ga. Read the story on UGA Today. Additional coverage at the Athens Banner Herald.

The Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute at the College of Public Health, a free program for high achieving, college-bound high school students directed by Dr. Brittani Harmon, was featured by the Athens Banner Herald and WUGA-FM.

Telehealth research by Dr. Timothy Heckman, professor of health promotion and behavior and and CPH associate dean for research, received additional coverage in the Georgia Health News.

Dr. Christopher Whalen, Ernest Corn Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, offered commentary about current challenges in the global elimination of tuberculosis for the SaportaReport’s Thought Leadership feature.
